He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1946. He returned to the family farm to help his father and also worked for local farmers in the area. Throughout his life, Ellis dedicated himself to faith, family, community and fun! Upon arriving in a new location, Ellis would establish a church home, serving in whatever capacity was needed. He also got involved in the local community, volunteering as a Webelo and Boy Scout Leader. He was a 69-year member of the American Legion, championing the Oratorical Contest in both Towner and Watford City.
On June 18, 1950, he married Betty Jore in Sidney, MT. They made their home in Watford City where they raised their 10 children. In March of 1952 he started working for the ND Highway Department in Watford City and worked there for 34 years before transferring to the Bowman District for two more years. He retired in 1988 after 36 years of service. Joann and family, So sorry to hear of the loss of your Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Learn, brothers, Clyde & Keith. Ultimately he went to the University of Mary on a scholarship to play football. Unfortunately, he was injured and wasn’t able to play more than half of a season. It was rough and fast and that’s the way he liked it.

Billie joined our Williston/Watford City/Tioga branch in August of 2015. She was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and was raised in Washington, Alaska and Montana. She had a 17 year career with the City of Miles City, Mt as a Human Resource/Payroll Officer.
He loved to play games–ping pong, Upwords, and work crossword puzzles. Ellis Lavern Ross, 92 of Watford City passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 6, 1929, to Claude and Vera Ross on a farm near Alexandria, SD, the first of their five children. In 1942, his parents bought a farm in Sanborn County, where they raised hogs, cattle, horses, and poultry. In Dad’s words, he was first a “chore boy, later a farm hand.” He graduated from 8th grade country school in 1943, and from Artesian High School in 1947.

He is also survived by many extended family and friends. It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Otto Sovig of Watford City, North Dakota, who passed away at the age of 89, on December 14, 2022.

He met and fell in love with Pauline Broderson, and they were married in Washington on Dec 31,1956.
Together they had three daughters; Debbie, Kara, and Kami. Pauline and Donald moved back to Grassy Butte where they bought and operated their ranch. Then in 1972, Donald and Pauline purchased a ranch in Tobacco Garden north of Watford city. Pauline, Debbie, Kara, and Kami were involved in a horrific car accident in 1973 and tragically Pauline and Debbie lost their lives.
He canned all his produce and made the best pickled beets and tomato juice. At age 94 he was preparing his garden for planting when he had a bad fall and had brain surgery. His mobility was affected, and he had to be in a wheelchair.
Danielle Fladeland joined the Springan Stevenson family in June of 2021. She was born and raised in the Stanley, North Dakota area and considers herself a "lifer" there. Danielle is married to her high school sweetheart, Lionie Fladeland, and together they have three children; Cassidy, Colter, and Coda. Her family lives in Stanley where together they work and raise cattle. This is the fee for the services the funeral home will provide during a funeral or memorial service.
